Perfume Advert are Thomas Brown and Aaron Turner from Middlesbrough, UK. Their debut release ‘Tulpa’ combines broken ambient textures with clunky, downtempo house beats and had a limited cassette run through the Vancouver based 1080p label in 2013. The album received positive attention and quickly lead to other projects such as ATM’s ‘Xerox’ (a collaborative album between Perfume Advert and M/M), remixes for D.Tiffany and M/M, and mixes for i-D magazine, Music is my Sanctuary and Subbacultcha. In 2015, Perfume Advert have had a string of follow up releases including the functional ‘Kappa Downs’ 12” via Where To Now? and the textural ’+200 Gamma’ tape through Opal Tapes.
Since 2014, Perfume Advert have been showcasing their live set internationally at shows and festivals including Mutek Montreal and Zoo Project Festival. Utilising a concise collection of hardware samplers, synths and other noise generators, the resulting performances can range from heavy, clubbed-up dance sets to delicate, ambient improvisations.
